The Shoebox. A place for lil' apps to live in peace and harmony.

Because it all comes full circle, Midnight ’Roids will bring you back to the penny arcade, twitchy fingers on the trigger and level 10 to beat. The goal of the game is to crush the ’roids without letting them crush you.

The controls, pilot: Move the mouse to maneuver your vessel, click to burn engines and space (or right-click) to beam lasers. ‘N’ to start fresh. ‘P’ to pause.

If anyone has any ideas about adding hostile saucers, other weapons, flashier explosions, more responsive controls, or any such other improvement to the game, it would be welcome. This app is sans-password, and y’all can upload versions.

This one is much funness. It will improve dramatically when shoes grows support for keyup/keydown/keysample instead of typographic key events. :]

Random user input idea.

What if you drop the keyboard? let’s say.. move the mouse, it aims tracking the mouse. left click fires, right click burns engines.

I wonder what it would be like? Would certainly get around Shoes’ short term key event handicap.

Hey Jesse, that ain’t random at all. Check out Rev. 3, it’s way, way, way more fun.

(Click burns engines, space fires)

Wicked! is right click supported in shoes? Part of the motivation for my full dismissal of the keyboard was the key repeat issue.. if i hold down space it fires one shot, waits, and then fires a volley. If the other mouse key were available I’ll bet we could defeat that. ;)

Absolutely. Right click now shoots (along with space).

Whaaanh! Right click fires only once, no matter how long you hold it down. Space when you hold it down fires once, stops for a bit, and then unleashes a fiendish volley.

I wanted fiendish volley on command with right click! lol

Right, of course, a fiendish volley. You got it.

OH yeah. Now THAT is power, my friend!

I’m surprised how well this app of yours performs? no slowdown? I put 20 lines on the screen in Mystify I get slowdown. Asteroids level 8, my last guy dies, and a shower of sparks break up a shower of asteroids into a shower of smaller asteroids and explody flames, all semitransparent overlapping circles, enough to make Oppenheimer lose track, and I just get my first frame of slowdown. :P

POWER I tell you! It’s like the primary weapon of my spacechip is something the asteroids had ought to respect, yo!

Notes on rev. 5:

- Added a camera that follows the ship. (Really, all the objects move the opposite of the camera’s “velocity”.) Adjust Camera::tightness to make it follow tighter or looser. - Added stars so that when the camera moves there is a reference point! I couldn’t tell if it was working otherwise :) - Made shots a wee bit faster since now the player is more likely to fly fast and fire backwards.

(Dude, this robot creeps me out..)

Reminds me more and more of red

Jesse splodes up a bunch of asteroids and then tries following the last one around for a bit. :]

How do I use this?
